Preset timers are useful for common focus blocks, cooking intervals, breaks, exercise circuits, study sessions, and short reminders.

Custom timers

Use the custom time fields when the preset buttons do not match the exact countdown you need. The display updates in the page and in the browser tab while running.

Focus and work sessions

  • Use 25 minutes for a Pomodoro-style focus block.
  • Use 5 or 10 minutes for short breaks.
  • Use 30, 45, or 60 minutes for deeper work sessions.
  • Keep the browser tab open so the completion sound can play.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs?

The timer continues counting down while the browser tab remains open. Some browsers may throttle background tabs, so keep the page open for the most reliable alarm.

Will the online timer play a sound?

Yes. After you start the timer, PlanetToolbox plays a short browser-generated sound when the countdown reaches zero.

Can I set a custom timer?

Yes. Use the hours, minutes, and seconds fields to set a custom timer up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds.
